The Chandelier

An experiment in robotic musical instrument design. The Chandelier is a 12ft long stringed instrument that uses electronic and mechanical actuation to excite its enormous strings, creating a variety of tones from deep, melancholic drones, to acute grating sounds.

This video has human voices added, as the instrument is intended to be played as an instrument in the opera Death and The Powers, by Tod Machover.
