I definitely agree on the aesthetics. Though I think in a lot of cases, vinyl packaging is less interesting than the CD counterparts. I wouldn't say that is the norm, but I've seen a lot of vinyl lately that just has a sleeve, the record, and a one-sheet with some lyrics. I wish those were a little more interesting. But overall, I fully agree that there is an inherent beauty in something so big and so tactile.

Mike - I agree! Most of my vinyl is sitting at a friend's house in England (I blame moving back and forth on that situation), but I'm still an unashamed vinyl lover.

The irony is not lost on me that the label I work with primarily sells releases on a medium that showed a rise and a decrease in popularity... before I was born.

One thing that isn't often mentioned about vinyl is the aesthetic. I REALLY loved looking through liner notes on CD's when they were "the rage" (what happened to that?!), but I love looking at the entire package of the record & sleeve for vinyl. From the clear record you posted above, to the black ones with incredible artwork on the sleeve, vinyl records are often art.

Mike awesome post, I am also a little obsessed with vinyl.

"I’m proud to work at a record company that ships more vinyl than any of the other major labels. But we screw a couple things up: no digital versions included with most of our records."

I find myself buying more records from Saddle Creek simply because they always include a digital download along with the vinyl. I love the vinyl but realistically I need the MP3. I will check out nonesuch. I had no idea that anti includes a card that you can share! That is brilliant.
Thanks for the info,
-Marcus
